Summit for Danny brochure>>

The “Summit For Danny” event was localized in 2001, when the entire Santa Barbara Community got involved and began hiking our local mountains in an effort to support Bob Bryant, the Daniel Bryant Center and the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. The local climbs have been ongoing every year since, and continue to raise scholarships for adolescent treatment or adolescents in need of treatment.
This year, we're making exciting changes! We'll be meeting at Skofield Park (instead of the Courthouse Sunken Gardens) and we'll be offering new climbs with more options for everyone. Not only that, but after the hiking we'll enjoy a community BBQ sponsored by Kiwanis! There will be a Children's Carnival and Hike, so all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend! Please help us make sure no child in our community goes without treatment for a substance abuse problem by registering for one of the climbs or making a pledge today.

On May 23, 1995, Bob Bryant’s son, Danny died of a drug overdose. Like many other parents who have suffered the loss of a child to alcohol and other drugs, Bob was determined to turn his tragedy into hope for others by raising funds to create an adolescent treatment center.
In 1999, Bob and Patty Bryant climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in an effort to raise funds to create a treatment program for adolescents in Santa Barbara. This event was named the “Summit for Danny.” In 2000, the Bryant’s lead a team of community leaders on a first ascent of an unnamed mountain in the Canadian Arctic. The funds raised from these two climbs enabled the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse to open the Daniel Bryant Youth and Family Treatment Center on March 22, 2001.
In an effort to purchase a permanent home for the Daniel Bryant Center, Bob and Patty Bryant and a team of climbers successfully reached the peak of Peru’s 20,000 ft. Mount Pisco in 2004.
International climbs like the ones mentioned above, occur biannually and all members of the community are welcome and encouraged to participate. Climbs are uniquely designed for all skill levels.
